Care companion robot (initial concept)
- Designed as a care companion for elderly individuals, providing assistance, monitoring, and basic interaction.
Research transition – UCI Nursing School Grant
- The robot was adapted into a research platform for studying empathetic human-robot interaction (HRI).
- Currently used in collaboration with UCI Nursing School to support late-stage dementia patients, helping researchers explore AI-driven emotional and social engagement.
Next phase – Social interaction for early-stage ADRD
- Developing an enhanced version of the robot for a new research grant focused on early-stage ADRD (Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Dementias) patients.
- Key objectives: social interaction, cognitive stimulation, and emotional support through AI-driven conversational capabilities.
